The largest Explorer lineup to date, the 2020 Explorer will be available in six different trims: base, XLT, Limited, ST, Platinum and a new hybrid model. The muscle behind the base engine is a 2.3-liter EcoBoost® inline four-cylinder turbocharged powertrain backed by a ten-speed automatic transmission generating 300-hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The Platinum trim gets its power from a 3.0-liter EcoBoost® twin-turbocharged V6 engine and churns out 365-hp and 380 lb-ft of torque, while the ST grade is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 projected to pump out 400-hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. The new hybrid model will employ a 3.3-liter V6 gas-electric hybrid engine to produce 318-hp and is expected to have an EPA-estimated range of 500 miles. The new Explorer will offer rear-wheel and all-wheel drivetrains and will have a towing capacity up to 5,600 pounds.
