If you and your family are looking for a stylish, safe, and affordable compact crossover, you’ve come to the right place! We’re confident that the 2018 Ford Escape will check a of the boxes and we’re here to put it up against one of the biggest competitors, the 2018 Hyundai Tucson. Read on to learn the key differences between the two vehicles.

Ford Escape

There are four trims to choose from for the 2018 Escape: S, SE, SEL, and Titanium; plus you could opt for the Escape Hybrid, which was the first hybrid SUV that hit the market almost 15 years ago in 2004.

The Escape comes standard with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that is rated at 168 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. You could also upgrade to the turbo 1.5-liter 4-cylinder powertrain, new last year for the SE trim, which puts out 179 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. At the top of the range is the turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that is rated for 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. The Escape is offered in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive except for the base engine which is only available in front-wheel drive.

Hyundai Tucson

In contrast, the Hyundai Tucson is relatively new to the market (compared to the Escape which has been around for almost two decades!) and is currently in its third year on the market. You’ll have three different trim levels to choose from: the SE, SEL, or Limited.

You will also have a few engine options. Starting with the base engine, you’ll have a 2.0-iter inline 4-cylinder engine with 164 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. Or, you could opt for a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that will give you a bit more power, topping out at 175 horsepower and 195 lb-ft.

Comfort & Convenience

Ford Escape

One of the best features of the Ford Escape is that it will require fewer stops at the gas station than the Hyundai Tucson. You can use this saved time to spend more time adventuring with your family. Drivers and passengers alike will love the head and legroom in the front seats as the Escape gives you plenty of room to spread out.

Another feature that sets the Escape apart from competition is Ford’s Sync infotainment system.

Hyundai Tucson

The Tucson comes standard with a suite of safety features, include a reversing camera, blind-spot detection, forward collision warning, and lane change assistance. If you choose to upgrade to the Limited trim you’ll get a three year complimentary subscription to Hyundai’s Blue Line Connected Care service.

The Tucson is a good vehicle but it clearly doesn’t excel in any area. On the other hand, the Ford Escape remains relevant ever since making its debut back in 2001. Ford continues to put control in your hands by giving you many ways to customize your Escape to make it perfect for you and your family.
