It’s no secret that Ford makes a great truck in the F-150. In fact, Ford’s F-Series continues to be the best-selling vehicle in America.

If you’re looking for a full-size pickup truck, you’re not alone. This is one of the most popular segments on the market, and there are several great options to choose from. The Ford F-150 has consistently been considered one of the best trucks available and the 2018 model is no different. However, the Ram 1500 is worth considering if comfort and technology are a priority for you in your truck choice.

Below, we’ll compare the 2018 Ford F-150 to the 2019 Ram 1500 to help give you the information that you need to make the best decision for your family, your business, or for your personal use.

One of the top considerations that consumers have when looking for a truck is the performance. Not all truck needs are the same. So with this in mind, the 2018 F-150 comes with five engine options. The base comes standard with a 3.3-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque– and it only goes up from there.

Other engines include a 2.7-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6, a 5.0-liter V8, and a new 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V6. The base 3.3-liter V6 makes 290 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 produces 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, but the 3.5-liter EcoBoost makes 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. The 5.0-liter V8 makes 395 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. And the new 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V6 produces 250 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque. And if those five options aren’t enough for you, Ford also makes the F-150 Raptor which is in a category of its own. Its EcoBoost V6 produces 450 horsepower which allows drivers to travel at incredible speeds over any landscape.

The Ford F-150 boasts best-in-class towing and payload, with a maximum towing capacity of 13,200 pounds (found in the 375-horsepower V6 engine) and a 3,270-pound payload limit (located in the 395-horsepower V8 engine). Don’t need that ability? Not to worry, the base engine can tow up to 7,700 pounds and has a 1,990-pound maximum payload capacity.

Ram 1500

The 2018 Ram 1500 only comes with three engine options, but it’s worth noting that the 1500 is the only truck in its class with a turbodiesel option. When looking at 1500s, you’ll have the choice between the base, which has a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 Flex Fuel engine, making 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, the turbodiesel, which has a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel turbocharged V6, and the most powerful option is a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 that makes 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque.
